Don Dillon RMT The massage therapy industry has exploded from decades of rising salaries, disposable income and generous work benefit plans since the Second World War. Now the economy is rapidly turning, forcing the industry to work efficiently and deliver more. There is rising demand by the public and government agencies for health professionals to work from evidence-based best practices; economic recession and significant consumer debt load; regressive changes in extended health plans and auto insurance; struggling massage therapy professional associations, where low membership equals hamstrung public relations; the advancement of other health professions towards degree-level education and the peer pressure created by this; imposing government taxation and legislation; and the emerging strength of the spa industry and massage franchises designed to change how massage therapists work. Join us as we discuss how emerging events will dramatically impact your practice, and steps you can take now to lessen the blow. He is the author of Better Business Agreements and Charting Skills for Massage Therapists. Over 60 of his articles have been published in industry publications including Massage Therapy Canada, Massage Therapy Today, AMTA Journal, AMTWP Connections, Massage Magazine on-line and various massage school and professional association newsletters.
